Immersion Trips

Picture
What they are

They are trips that would be taken by CHISPAS members to locations around Florida and eventually, the country that give first-hand experience and insight into the realities of migrant agricultural workers.

Locations
CHISPAS would travel to a location within Florida such as Immokalee, Florida.

Frequency & Length of Time
We hope to have this program be one of the culminations of our efforts in helping out the migrant population. Annual trips can be arranged during the spring and summer break. Harvest time dictates when travel would occur; most crops are harvested in the spring and consequently, the number of migrant workers rises. Spring break would allow 1 week of immersion whereas summer break would allow a varied amount of time depending on the group of volunteers.

Preparation and Logistics Planning
Lots of preparation is required for a trip of this magnitude not only for the volunteers traveling but for the activities and resources that are to be presented.

The semester prior to the trip, volunteers will be asked to coordinate community outreach events for the collection of toiletries and clothing. All clothing and items collected will be transported and taken as gifts to the location. By the same token, preparation in terms of the organization of materials and resources will take place during this time as well.

Meetings will take place throughout the semester prior to the trip in order to organize and plan accordingly. Interested volunteers must attend these meetings
